BarberStreet82, commonly known in Brunei as Jalan 82, is a barbershop located in Kampong Rimba. The owner, Abdul Wafi Syazwan bin Supri(29), is the mastermind behind the local barber. It is a barber that operates on appointments rather than walk ins and the operation time is from 1300 to 2000 daily outside is house. Originally called Facezone now Street82 where the barber is located.
The origin for his barber career is that after he graduated Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPUSB) in Islamic Teachings in Usuluddin back in 2013, he observed the situation in Brunei where graduates were struggling to get employment in government sectors as well as the private sectors. So he started to learn what ways to make a living so as to financially support his family.
Looking at Brunei, there were plenty of Indian barbers scatter in every village so he knew the competition were tough as most will just go to these barbers which are generally known and also cheap. However the thing about these barber shop are that the equipment used are generic, consisting of the basic tools to become a barber whereas a professional barber would use a variety of tools that is used in certain situations.
After deciding what to do he began to learn trade that is being a barber. He began like many who desires to learn something, the internet, specifically YouTube. He started learning in 2017 from various youtubers such as David Falla, Chris Bossio, 360jeezy and MC Barber However he decided that it was not enough thus he went to Shah Alam, Malaysia to learn it practically in a program called Zero to Barber in 2018 for 10 days. Aside from that he have also observe how other barbers did their work around Brunei.
Started out in late November 2017. At first Abdul Wafi started out giving free haircuts to his family members and close friends as a means to practice his barber skills. It is only in 2018 that he has started charging for his services after getting attention in social media and the help from his friends and family spreading the word.
His barber business continues well in 2021 despites setbacks caused by the pandemic which also halted other businesses in Brunei. Now with the new cluster in Brunei his barbers, like many others businesses has temporarily stopped until the time when the cases are down.
