Program Curahan Ilmu (2021)

Students of 2021

Program Curahan Ilmu started in 2018 as an initiative to better improve the grades of year 6 students who are about to sit for their Periksa Sekolah Rendah. 

Created by The Biro Kemasyarakatan, RPN Mengkubau village community and the company Teachmeguru(until 2020), this education program aims to helps children from financially vulnerable families from various villages throughout Brunei-Muara district. Back then the teachings were held at the community hall at Kampong Mentiri but now it has moved to a school.


These children are educated every Friday and Sunday afternoon at a school located in Kampong Mentiri which is Sekolah Rendah Dato Mohd Yassin. The tutors are volunteers who are looking to increase their skills in teaching whilst some of them are regular employees, what matters is that the program does not discriminate who joins so long as they can teach and are dedicated to teaching. This year, 10 people have volunteered to educated.


Being a tutor of this program myself, this was a great experience for someone who is aspiring to teacin the future. We were given a bag filled with teaching utensils and teaching materials that was sponsored by the department of Brunei Muara District. Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei(TAIB) has sponsored the students with school bags and school utensils. And, most important of all, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport which has worked with and help to ensure that Program Curahan Ilmu work efficiently.

During the program students were given food and beverages in between classes which is between1530-1600. The food was a mixture between donations from families, home cooked meals prepared by the chairman, Fatimah Hj Jamil, and foods brought by the teachers.




Now on its 4th year, the program continues on despite setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, classes were originally halted for about 3 months and the it resumed by using ZOOM for online teachings, Tutors also did their part by send students worksheet to do while they are preparing for their examination. There was a time when the COVID situation died down a bit, the program resumed teaching face to face. Extra efforts were made to increase the amount of teaching conducted, so the program chairman allowed her home as a place to conduct night lesson.

Now, at the end of the year, the program has ended due to the examination approaching on Sunday 31st November 2021. Earlier the week, an online meeting was held where tutors, staff members, students and parents appeared for a Doa Selamat as well as speech of encouragement from the tutors to the students.

Program Curahan Ilmu is set to occur again next year somewhere in January or February to teach new students.

LINGUALIST.BN

"Memupuk jati diri dengan mempelajari dialek kitani" Lingualist.bn motto   Lingualist.bn is founded by 7 students studying for their masters at University Brunei Darussalam this August. The 7 founders pondered what to do as they await for their Masters to finish, they decided to make a Teaching program specifically on teaching Bruneians about their own native language.  They saw the effects of globalization has on Bruneians especially the youths, fearing that Brunei's local language might someday become extinct.
