Old friend scam

  Scams, you can’t avoid them. Throughout our time online, we can see all forms ranging from genital enlargement to get-rich schemes. These days, scams are getting more detailed, trying their best to be genuine as possible so that they can achieve their objective, whether to hack your device or steal your hard-earned money. These scams are ever-present regardless of whether you are online or offline. Scams a few years ago limited themselves to calls and messages however, now, they are appearing sporadically through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and the ilk. WhatsApp scams are usually a common sight in Brunei as most use them to communicate. Throughout my time using WhatsApp, there will be a random text from a foreign number (usually in African countries) promoting pornographic content or selling crypto. Program Mumtaz 2022

Program Mumtaz is an education initiative aim at developing and improving the grades of student who are sitting for their Periksaan Sekolah Rendah (PSR). Managed by Teachmeguru with the support of The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports(KKBS) and Kelab Komuniti Belia Transformasi(KKBT), Program Mumtaz has successfully achieve their goal and have produced overwhelming results since its creation. Program Mumtaz returns once again for the 5th year, started back in 2018 with the main objective of giving free education to children from financially vulnerable families. On 1st April 2022, Program Mumtaz had their opening ceremony in the afternoon via zoom. BARBERKU

BarberKu is one of the many unique barbershop found in Brunei. Managed by a group of friends, Abdul Mateen, Mohd Khairulddin, Mohd Shahrol and Abdul Rauf. They started their journey in January 2020 when they attended a male hair cutting course held by Pusat Pembangunan Belia(Youth Development Centre) also trained by Jae Ahmadkhan of Chaps & Rebels with the duration of 3 months. However it was postponed due to the ongoing pandemic until July when they received their certificates. After the completion of their course and training, they were approached by Kementerian Budaya Belia dan Sukan(Ministry of Youth Culture and Sports) with the proposal of opening their own barbershop and the four of them as the owners. An opportunity where they unanimously accepted as they all realized the difficulty of getting a job considering the current situation caused by the pandemic. Garden Eats

Garden Eats is founded by two friends which, Md Khairur Ridhwan and Md Azmi Waliyuddin. The origins for Gardens Eats is that they started selling at Gerai Jangsak back in late 2019. After gaining popularity, they opened up at their house located at No 8 Spg 42 Jln Kilanas Kg Kilanas Ban6 in January 2020. The reason for their name is self-explanatory, the front of their house has a spacious and serene garden which they use for their customers to eat their burgers, hence Garden eats. Home made burgers have lately risen in popularity in Brunei as opposed to the mass produced burger patties that many usually eat. People desire more in their burgers thus several businesses opened up to cater the demand. CAKOI3RASA

  Cakoi, a local favorite, was brought by Chinese immigrants to Brunei. Known as Youtiao, it is a donut type treat that is deep fried and eaten with various condiments whether it be sweet or savory. CAKOI3RASA is one of the numerous stalls that sells cakoi at Pasar Malam Gadong. Founded by Hj Wan Zulaini Bin Mohd Zelani back in 1999 and they started selling at Pasar Malam Gadong in 2001. CAKOI3RASA  originally sold their cakois with 4 flavors which is Durian,  Pandan, Honey and Peanuts. Now they only offer 3 flavors which Durian, Pandan and Tuna.  Recently, they started to dell Nasi Katok and Ayam Penyet at their stall, the sambal paired with them is a perfect balance in terms of spiciness and umami. "Memupuk jati diri dengan mempelajari dialek kitani" Lingualist.bn motto   Lingualist.bn is founded by 7 students studying for their masters at University Brunei Darussalam this August. The 7 founders pondered what to do as they await for their Masters to finish, they decided to make a Teaching program specifically on teaching Bruneians about their own native language.  They saw the effects of globalization has on Bruneians especially the youths, fearing that Brunei's local language might someday become extinct. Additionally given that this is the digital age where the internet plays a crucial roles in our lives, the founders of lingualist.bn also saw it as a threat as the lingua franca of the internet is english.
